Clean and Clear: Water Gadgets a Mother Can Love
By Lauren SchulzMay 8, 2008
Mama needs a new pair of shoes — doesn’t she always? — but if Mama is the practical sort, perhaps this year she’d also like to have a nice, new toy that helps keep her hydrated in style.
Bye-bye, Brita. Cuisinart has recently come out with a “countertop water filtration unit” which is meant to whisk all that nasty stuff out of the tap water. The N.Y. Times reports that this week, the item is on special for $150 at Crate & Barrel. This gadget, which does take up “a square foot of counter space,” also has a hot water spigot if your lady takes her tea early and often.
In this month’s Domino magazine, there’s a cute kettle featured that makes you thirsty just looking at it. Bodum’s “water kettle” is made of clear borosilicate glass, which “testifies to BODUM’s sensitivity to people’s need for natural and non-reactive materials, which are smell and taste free and do not taint water,” according to literature on the company’s site. Highlighted with blue pops of color, it would look especially pretty in a neutral kitchen.
And when mother’s little helpers have driven her to reach for an early glass of Mommy’s Little Helper, she might need a way to keep her stash cold as she hangs out on the front lawn with the tireless tykes. We like this clear, “double-walled bottle,” available from the Museum of Modern Art’s online store, spotted on Cookie magazine’s “Daily Find” blog. Like the Bodum kettle, it’s also made from borosilicate glass, which ensures the stuff in “mommy’s bottle” stays at the perfect temperature.
