Women in the Restaurant Industry Honored

Wwia2007sm_2 Women Chefs & Restaurateurs recently held their 2007 award ceremony, honoring seven women who have distinguished themselves in the industry.  Recipients were chosen based on a vote of the membership of WCR after being presented 22 finalists to consider.  Previous winners have included such notable women as Lidia Bastianich, Andrea Immer, Barbara Lazaroff, Madeliene Kamman, Mary Sue Milliken, and Susan Feniger.

"These Women Who Inspire Award recipients are characterized by passion, service, dedication and innovation within our industry," said Helene Kennan, president of WCR, and executive chef for Bon Appétit Management Company at the Getty Center and Getty Villa. "They serve as important role models for our membership and the women of food across the globe."

  • Karen Waltuck, Owner/GM of Chanterelle (New York, NY)
  • Tracy O'Grady, Chef/Owner of Willow (Arlington, VA)
  • Thursa Evans, Pastry Chef of Almost Home Tea Room (Greencastle, IN)
  • Helen Turley, Winemaker at Marcassin Winery (Calistoga, CA)
  • Judith Redmond, Co-owner of Full Belly Farm (Guinda, CA)
  • Alison Costello, Executive Chef of Capuchin Soup Kitchen (Detroit, MI)
  • Leah Chase, Chef/Owner of Dooky Chase Restaurant (New Orleans, LA)
